Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

However, blood levels of candesartan are increased in the elderly. Older people may be more sensitive than younger adults to the effects of candesartan.
